Agile Learning Center Oahu provides a co-creative space where young people can focus on personal strength-building and collaborative exploration through self-directed learning. Our students tap into a whole new world of lifelong learning opportunities through the bridges we build with local and non-local businesses, organizations, and individuals who offer a vast variety of skills, knowledge, wisdom, and resources. Within our shared-space, our students and staff intentionally design a supportive environment based on trust, mutual respect, and co-creation.

Dearest friends & supporters,

You did it!

Your energy and guidance has lifted Agile Learning Center Oahu through its 2015-16 pilot year. What a SUCCESS!

Our pilot year students experienced countless life lessons throughout their time with us. This includes the value of communication & self-awareness, the practice of reflection & setting personal intentions, and the importance of advocating for themselves.

Here are a few outcomes that came of our pilot year...

~ We responded to the need and interest in self-directed learning on Oahu

~ One of our students focused on his passion for cooking, photography, and aviation. He also successfully started his own food business with a business partner in the Kaka'ako community, selling fresh locally-sourced lunches to members of The BoxJelly Coworking, Hawaii's first coworking space.

~ Another one of our students directed his time and energy on his interests in history and marine biology through reading, snorkeling, and sitting in on classes at local colleges. He was the source of inspiration and helping hand for the beautiful fish tank contribution that sits at the front desk of BoxJelly!

~ Another student focused on playwriting, explored local libraries, and got to know more about herself and her interests in botany, games, art, acting, and outdoor adventures.

Our students were able to see their local community as a real-world "classroom" by engaging in community-based resources, connecting them back to their community by making learning relevant to their interests. These resources were chosen by students and included museums, parks, community organizations, as well as our local habitat, culture and history.

Here are a few places we got to explore...

~ Hawaii Institute of Marine Biology on Coconut Island
~ Mount Ka'ala
~ Waimea Valley
~ Hawaiian Humane Society
~ Bishop Museum
~ Honolulu Museum of Art
~ Kawainui Marsh
~ Waikiki Aquarium
~ Valley of Temples Memorial Park
~ Spalding House
~ various beaches, snorkeling/surf spots, hikes & parks throughout the island

Check out the timeline here on our Agile Learning Center Oahu Facebook Page to see a few of our fun-filled intentional learning adventures from our pilot year.

~ BIG MAHALO TO YOU ~
for following our journey and believing in the shared vision of a better world for our keiki and communities through self-directed, lifelong learning.

ALC Oahu is currently transitioning in various ways and as always, possibilities are endless. This exciting transition calls for us to hold off on continuing as a center-based year-long program for the 2016-17 school year as we move along pathways that best support our community.

In the meantime, here are a few offerings we provide:

~ Promotional services for local resources, individuals & organizations that are aligned with our educational philosophies

~ Event hosting, fee-based workshops & short-term programs for self-directed learners of all ages

~ 1-on-1 consulting for supporting parents & educators around self-directed learning

~ Mentorship for self-directed learners

~ Opportunities for building connections with community-based resources to support interest in education

Please email nina@alcoahu.org for more information. We'd love to hear from you.

Stay in the loop as we develop by signing up for our newsletter at alcoahu.org! Your continued support is greatly felt and appreciated.

As always, we remain agile! Thank you for being part of our journey in this truly revolutionary time in education for our global ohana.
